Dogs: Puppy love: Man travels to Greece to rescue dog, brings back two
KINGSTON — In the middle of his 8,000-kilo-metre plane ride from Toronto to Greece to try to find the injured dog he had been forced to leave behind, Ted Davidson wondered if he wasn't just a little bit crazy.
"It crossed my mind once or twice. I have a very soft spot in my heart for dogs and an equally soft head."
But it was the ex-military man's sense of duty that kept him going on his mission to bring home the stray dog he had fallen for on his September vacation.
"The dog had befriended me," he said, sitting in the living room of his Kingston home, both his new dogs finally at his feet. "And when she was hurt, I couldn't do anything."

Dogs: Yappy ending for puppy flushed down toilet
LONDON (AFP) - A puppy in Britain had a lucky escape after a four-year-old boy accidentally flushed it down the toilet when he was trying to wash it, the Daily Mirror newspaper reported on Monday.
The week-old cocker spaniel's young owner, Daniel Blair, thought the puppy needed a wash after it got muddy playing in the garden, so he put it in the toilet and flushed it.
But his plan went disastrously wrong when the animal was swept away and became trapped in a waste pipe for nearly four hours.
Firefighters and animal welfare officers could not reach it, so Daniel's mother eventually called a plumber, who found the dog lying upside down in a pipe about 20 metres away from their house in Northolt, west London.

Cats: Florida teen charged in 19 cat killings
MIAMI - A South Florida teenager was arrested early Sunday and accused of killing and mutilating the cats of his neighbours - a disturbing string of deaths that has horrified residents and shaken animal lovers in two Miami-area communities.
Tyler Hayes Weinman, 18, was taken into custody at a party, police said. He was still being questioned at Miami-Dade police headquarters while authorities praised the arrest at a press conference Sunday morning.
"I understand that pet owners feel very strongly about their little family members," Miami-Dade County Commissioner Katy Sorenson said. "Animals bring happiness and comfort to our lives. So, to see them so violated and mutilated just defies all common sense and it's painful for everyone involved. Thankfully, for this community, the terror has come to an end."
Weinman was charged with 19 felony counts of animal cruelty, 19 misdemeanour counts of improperly disposing of an animal body and four felony counts of burglary related to the cat deaths. It is unclear if he has an attorney. Messages left at phone numbers for his parents were not immediately returned and no one answered the door at his home.
