Cats: Why cat sterilization is necessary
For the last 30 years, the animal welfare community has been educating and encouraging owners to voluntarily spay/neuter their pets.
Although there are many responsible owners, there are also others who are unable to or unwilling to sterilize their pets.
By enacting the mandatory spay/neuter bylaw, the Township of Esquimalt provides another tool to the animal welfare community in solving the growing cat population problem.

Cats: Happy Cat To The Rescue
Happy Cat Sanctuary has come to the rescue of 19 cats which were removed from a Medicine Hat residence between Nov. 2 and 13.
The residence was housing 101 cats as well as numerous other animals such as dogs, birds and reptiles. A number of rescue groups across Western Canada took the cats in. The 19 which came out to Strathmore were the second most taken by a group. Okotoks took the most cats in at 25.
"Their conditions have been assessed and they are all being treated while they stay at the sanctuary," said Michelle with Happy Cat Sanctuary.
The cats range in age and many need some form of medical attention; however, most need only minor work done. There are a few unfortunately who need more extensive work but they will all be okay, given enough time.

Dogs: Blind sled dog set to retire
Isobel ran against the odds and has been filmed by NBC TVI
Isobel the sled dog is hanging up her harness in Churchill, Man.
The nine-year-old Siberian husky-malamute cross is set to retire in January. What makes her well-deserved rest remarkable is that she has been running for the past five years completely blind.
She lost her vision but not her spirit, said owner Gerald Azure.
Everything seemed fine with Isobel until one day five years ago, when she staggered to a halt in the middle of a sled run.
